Refereed paper presented to the Journalism Education Conference, Griffith University, 29 November – 2 December 2005

A number of criticisms on this paper to follow.
Among them:
- Eye tracking doesn’t say anything about reader behaviour. That’s what clicks are for.
- The paper doesn’t deal with design at all but rather story placement on page. It also deals with picture size and presence of hyperlinked headlines and headline + blurb combinations in a vague way.
- The paper never distinguishes between the kinds of pages considered. That is, both homepages and story pages are discussed but the analysis doesn’t take into account behavioural differences on each, which seems strange considering a page full of text and page full of hyperlinked headlines, blurbs, and pictures can’t really be said to be similar design.
For now, enjoy the new LitRev tag.
